MILWAUKEE, WIS. (January 15, 2017) – The Bryant & Stratton College men's basketball team dropped a tough one on Saturday falling short 83-79 down the stretch to Moraine Valley Community College. After the loss, the Bobcats fell to 11-10 overall and 8-5 in region play.
With a week off prior to Saturdays contest, the Bobcats were prepared to battle hard against a very tough Cyclone team.
The Bobcats got out to an early 17-13 lead with 13 minutes remaining in the first half. Shooting 51.6% from the field and 50% from beyond the arc helped the Bobcats extend their lead to 45-40 at the halftime.
"The first half was great basketball by both teams," Bobcats head coach Brian Richert said. "Guys were battling and making tough shots which made it a very entertaining half."
Throughout the second half, the Bobcats ran into a shooting slump while the Cyclones got hot from all over the court. The Bobcats shot 14-35 from the field and just 20% from beyond the three-point line.
"Our shooting cooled off which will happen sometimes but I thought the guys did a great job of continuing to get stops and take the ball to the basket," Richert said.
Despite the second half shooting struggles, the Bobcats led the Cyclones 65-58 with nine minutes remaining in the contest.
After multiple turnovers by the Bobcats and a few clutch shots by the Cyclones, the Bobcats trailed 75-71 with just over three minutes remaining and were never able to get over the hump.
Returning Second Team All-District player, Lewrenzo Byers (Brown Deer, WI) led the way with 20 points and six assists.
Jarel Triplett (E. Chicago, IN) added 15 points while Lincoln Wieseman (Lake Geneva, WI) tacked on 11 points.
Up next for the Bobcats is another Region IV home contest against Waubonsee Community College on Saturday, January 15.
