WAUWATOSA, WI (November 7, 2018) - Playing their first game on the road of the season, the Bryant & Stratton College men's basketball team traveled to Burlington, IA on Wednesday night to go up against the powerhouse NJCAA Division I program Southeastern Community College where they suffered a 111-72 loss. The loss puts the Bobcats at 1-1 overall on the year.
Down just five points with 14 minutes left in the game, the Bobcats ran out of gas as they struggled to knock down shots and get stops in transition.
"We had done a decent job of handling their pressure and playing solid first-shot defense," Bobcats head coach Matt Majkrzak said.
Through the remaining 10 minutes of the game, the Bobcats saw the deficit increase and were never able to recover.
"The key to playing a team as talented as Southeastern is to stick to doing the little things really well," Majkrzak said. "We had to stick to the game plan for 40 minutes but unfortunately we were not able to do that down the stretch."
After shooting better than 46% from the field in their first game of the season, the Bobcats were held to just 23-72 (31.9%) shooting from the field and forced into 25 turnovers.
"We need better play from our bench so that we can get our starters more rest," Majkrzak said. "It is still early though, so the guys haven't figured out how to play together as a team. We share the ball at times but not at the level it takes to score against good defenses."
Freshman guard, Justin Brookens, led the way for the Bobcats dropping 19 points followed by freshman, Manny Jingco with 14 points in 31 minutes of play.
After a 22-point game opening night, sophomore, Joe Duty, struggled shooting the ball going 2-11 from the field with nine points (5-5 from the line).
The Bobcats shot 15-17 from the charity stripe as a team.
