WAUWATOSA, WI (November 29, 2018) - The score was tied at 82 a-piece before the Bryant & Stratton men's baskeball team defeated Madison College 84-82 after a last second basket from freshman forward, Chris Thompson, to seal the game. The win marks as the Bobcats fourth straight victory and puts them at 5-1 overall on the season.
The Bobcats led the Wolfpack by five with seven minutes left in the game after freshman guard, Justin Brookens, knocked down a jumpshot to put the Bobcats up 73-68.
"The big key to this game was just finding ways to make crucial plays down the stretch," Bobcats head coach Matt Majkrzak said. "That's what the game came down to."
After a few possessions of trading baskets, Thompson, knocked down a clutch shot from long distance giving the Bobcats a 78-71 edge over Madison with five minutes remaining. The seven point deficit marked as the largest lead of half by either team.
Responding to the Bobcats momentum, the Wolfpack locked down defensively, holding Bryant & Stratton two just four points over a four-minute time period.
Tied at 82-82, Madison College had possession with 16 seconds left before Bobcats guard, Joe Duty, stole the ball and assisted to Thompson in transition for the game winning basket.
"We stuck together and made some big time playes down the stretch," Majkrzak said.
This was not the first time the Bobcats had a game come down to the final seconds as their previous 71-70 victory against Anoka-Ramsey on Saturday had a similar ending.
"We still have not felt like we are playing our best basketball," Majkrzak said. "We have shown stretches of strong play but have not been able to put together a full forty minutes of solid basketball yet."
Guards, Duty and Brookens, both led the way dropping 18 points on 50% shooting from the field followed by sophomore guard, Kyle McDermed with 13 points and four rebounds.
Guard, Manny Jingco, tacked on 11 points and Thompson added 10 to go along with the game winning basket.
