WAUWATOSA, WI (December 2, 2018) - A thrilling contest was decided in the closing minutes on Saturday as the Bryant & Stratton College men's basketball team failed to pull through down the stretch allowing the #11 Danville Area Community College Jaguars to earn a 94-89 victory. The loss puts the Bobcats at 5-2 overall and snapps their four game winning streak.
From the 17:55 minute mark of the first half through roughly the midway point of the second half, Bryant & Stratton held the lead but couldn't stop the Jaguars late push as they took a 63-62 lead with 13 minutes remaining.
"It was a high level college basketball game," Bobcats head coach Matt Majkrzak said. "We were sloppy with the ball at times but it came down to who could make more plays down the stretch."
Battiling down the stretch, six lead changes took place between both teams. With 10 seconds left on the clock, the Bobcats trailed by six before freshman foward, Chris Thompson, knocked down a tough shot from long distance bringing the score to a one possession game (92-89) with three seconds remaining.
Having to foul, the Bobcats put the Jaguars at the line in hopes of a miss on the front end of a one-in-one. The Jaguars sunk both free throws giving them a 94-89 lead with two seconds remaining making it impossible for a Bobcat comeback.
"Danville is a good team and they did a great job staying consistent defensively which allowed them to grind out a win," Majkrzak said. "Their pressure defensively eventually wore us down and unfortunately they made one or two more plays than us down the stretch."
Freshman point guard, Justin Brookens, and sophomore, Joe Duty, led the way for the Bobcats dropping 22 points a-piece followed by sophomore, Kyle McDermed with 16 and Thompson with 12.
The Bobcats had four players in double figure scoring which marks as the fifth game this season four or more players produced double digit points.
As a team, the Bobcats shot 49.1% from the field and 32% from beyond the arc. They went 23-23 from the charity stripe which marks as the second time this season the Bobcats shot 100% from the line.
