Bobcats Rout Cyclones Behind Brookens Season High 36

WAUWATOSA, WI (January 20, 2019) - Saturday's NJCAA Region IV match between the Bryant & Stratton College men's basketball team and the Moraine Valley Community College Cyclones marked as the Bobcats 14th win of the season as they defeated the Cyclones 85-76 in regulation.
The win improved the Bobcats to 14-7 overall on the season.
Bryant & Stratton (14-7, 13-2) raced out to a 14-4 run in the first four minutes of the game after freshman guard, Justin Brookens, stepped into a transition three from 25 feet giving the Bobcats a 10 point advantage.
Minutes later, the Bobcats remained ahead by 10 points until sophomore forward, TJ Schneider, snatched an offensive rebound and kicked it out to Brookens for another rhythm three-pointer giving them a 13 point advantage.
Leading 17-4 with just over 13 minutes remaining in the first half, the Cyclones found a flow of their own as they cut the deficit to eight points (21-13) with eight left in the first half.
Over the final minutes of the half, the Bobcats took their biggest lead of the game at 44-23 after Brookens sunk a corner three with just two minutes remaining before the break.
Despite a small run by the cyclones right before intermission, the Bobcats held a 47-30 lead at halftime and had all of the momentum on their side.
To start the second half, Bryant & Stratton did not skip a beat as sophomore guard, Joe Duty, kept the tempo going as he drilled a shot from beyond the arc to gain a 20 point leed (50-30).
After battling back and forth over the final 19 minutes of the half, the Cyclones trailed 81-71 with just over a minute remaining.
Needing a basket to close out the game, it was Brookens coming through in the clutch again for the Bobcats as he converted a tough layup in transition to give the Bobcats a 12 point edge (83-71) with under a minute to go.
With the clock against them, the Cyclones failed close the gap and Bobcats went on their way to earn their 13th region victory of the season.
Brookens poured in a career high 36 points on 68% shooting from the field including 7-8 from downtown. He also grabbed five boards and five assists.
Freshman forward, Chris Thompson, added 13 points while Duty dropped 10 points and four assists.
The Bobcats shot 45% from the field which is just above their season average of 44%.
They shot 45.5% from distance and and 84.2% from the charity stripe.

After a span of seven games on the road, Bryant & Stratton will come back home Wednesday evening to square off against Richard J. Daley College at the Bloechl Center.
Tip-off will take place at 7:00PM.
The overall record between Bryant & Stratton and Richard J. Daley stands at 1-1 as the Bobcats earned an 86-82 overtime victory last season and suffered a 75-67 loss in the 2016-17 season.
