WAUWATOSA, WI (January 25, 2019) - The Bryant & Stratton College men's basketball team's 67-65 win over the Kishwaukee College Kougars on Friday night came down to the closing moments as the Bobcats held strong defensively in the final seconds to seal the deal.
Leading 66-65 with 10 seconds remaining, Bobcats guard Justin Brookens split one of two at the line extending the lead to 67-66.
With one final possession left for the Kougars, Bobcats forward Jose Sosa came up huge defensively blocking the Kougars floater in the lane to secure the win and improve Bryant & Stratton to 16-7 overall and 14-2 in region play.
Brookens led the way for the Bobcats with a team-high 19 points and five assists followed by sophomore gurad Joe Duty dropping 18 points on 7-15 shooting from the field.
Sophomore guard Kyle McDermed matched his season average with 13 points while Sosa grabbed 12 boards and four blocks including the game winning block.
Defensively Bryant & Stratton was at their best as they produced 18 points off of turnovers as well as forcing the Kougars into a total 17 turnovers throughout the game. The Bobcats shot 34.3% from the field and just 22.2% from beyond the arc.
A back and forth battle all game resulted in eight ties and six lead changes.
At the tip, it was Bryant & Stratton who threw the first punch as they began the game on a 9-2 run after freshman forward Chris Thompson knocked down a shot from distance with 16 minutes remaining in the first half.
At the midway point of the first half, the Kougars cut the deficit to three points (17-14) but failed to get over the hump as the Bobcats brought their lead back up to eight over the final 10 minutes of the half.
Holding a 35-27 advantage to start the second half, the Kougars caught fire as they took a 44-42 lead with 12 minutes left in the game.
Responding to the Kougars run, the Bobcats regained a 46-44 advantage after a layup through traffic from McDermed with 10 minutes remaining.
After a six minute span of trading baskets, Bryant & Stratton trailed 61-58 until freshman guard Manny Jingco sparked momentum drilliing a shot from 23 feet to tie the game with three minutes remaining.
After Jingco's clutch shot, the Bobcats put together a 6-4 run and came up strong defensively down the stretch to earn their 16th win of the season.

Bryant & Stratton will have less than 24 hours of rest as they return back home on Saturday to square off against Bay College.
Tip-off will take place at 3:00pm.
This will mark as the first of two games the Bobcats will go up against Bay College this season as they will return the favor and travel to Escanaba, MI on February 9 for the second match.
