Bobcats Split on the Road

WAUWATOSA, WI (April 22, 2018) - The Bryant & Stratton College Bobcats traveled to Malta, Ill. for a match-up against Kishwaukee College where they split the double header with a game one loss and game two victory. The Bobcats lost 4-1 in game one and won 12-11 in game two and improved to 3-15-1 overall on the season and 2-11 in region competition.
04/22 - Game 1 vs Kishwaukee College (L 4-1)
Game one opened up with the Bobcats jumping on the Kougars early after Melissa Biefeld brought in Tori Golden on a sacrifice fly to take a 1-0 lead going into the bottom of the inning. In the bottom of the first, the Kougars went scorless leaving the Bobcats ahead 1-0.
After a scorless second inning, the Kougars responded earning two runs to put them up 2-1.
Despite having multiple runners in scoring position through the remainder of the game, the Bobcats were unable to earn anymore runs and lost 4-1. The Bobcats left 12 runners on base.
Kayla Jaskulski (CF) led the way for the Bobcats going 2 for 3 at the plate with 1 walk followed by Brooke Masi (2B) going 1 for 2.
Alex Villalobos (P) threw all six innings with three earned runs and five strikeouts.
04/22 - Game 2 vs Kishwaukee College (W 12-11)
The bats got hot in game two for the Bobcats as Meghan Strasser (LF) started things off with a single to right field. Amanda Zane (RF) followed reaching first on an error by the Kougars. With two on base and no outs, Brooke Masi (2B) was up next a struck out. Maria Carmona (1B) came up next and walked which loaded the bases for lead-off batter Kayla Jaskulski. Jaskulski lined one to right field to bring in the first run of the game.
With bases still loaded, Tori Golden stepped up to the plate and launched one to center field for a double and brought in three runs. Following Golden, Heather Anderson (SS) came up next and singled to right field to bring in Golden.
The Kougars were forced to make a pitching change but the Bobcats were still able to tack on one more run and make it a 6-0 lead going into the bottom of the second. In the bottom of the inning, the Kougars retaliated with a six-run inning to tie the game 6-6.
After a scoreless third and fourth inning by both teams, the Bobcats jumped on the Kougars in the fifth after Maria Carmona singled to bring in a run and take the lead 7-6. Following Carmona, Jaskulski and Golden both walked to bring up Anderson who doubled on a fly ball to right and brought in three runs.
Leading 10-6, the Bobcats were not done yet as Biefeld came up and singled on a line drive to center and brought in Anderson to extend the lead 11-6.
The Kougars responded in the bottom of the fifth and sixth scoring one run in the fifth and two runs in the sixth which cut the lead to 11-9. In the top of the seventh, the Bobcats tacked on one more insurance run and then held off the Kougars in the bottom of the inning to snatch a 12-11 victory.
Golden led the way for the Bobcats going 3-4 at the plate with two runs and three RBI's followed by Anderson going 3-5 at the plate with three runs and four RBI's.
Villalobos went 3-5 with one RBI and pitched all seven innings with two strikeouts and two earned runs.
"The first game was a really clean well-played softball game by both teams," Bobcats head coach Troy Engibous said. "Even though we came up short, I think that gave the girls a lot of confidence going into game two."
"I was very impressed not only in the game we won but in both games with how many base runners we had," Engibous said. "The first game we were a hit or two short from winning but in the second game getting that big hit at the right time was the difference."
Up next for the Bobcats is a double header at home vs Carl Sandburg College. The Bobcats will play their home game at Wauwatosa West High School due to the recent snow effecting their official home field.
First pitch will take place at 11:00am.
