MILWAUKEE, WIS. (December 20, 2017) – The Bryant & Stratton College women's basketball team went on the road to defeat McHenry County College 75-68 last night in a Region IV match-up. This was a very special win for the program as it marked as the 100th career win for Bobcats head coach Jeff Lorenz.
Lorenz coached four seasons collegiately prior to joining Bryant & Stratton College where he was 71-50 overall. Since joining the Bobcats, Lorenz has improved that record going 17-10 overall last year and standing at 13-3 overall this season thus far.
"This was a very special night for me but I am most importantly proud of the way the girls played," Lorenz said. "There has been multiple achievements and awards this team has earned this year but we all remain focused on the ultimate goal."
The Bobcats improved their win streak to seven in-a-row last night but it was not an easy victory.
Struggling early, the Bobcats trailed McHenry County College by four at the end of the first quarter. Throughout the second quarter, McHenry continued to execute offensively and extended their lead to eight points at the break.
"They were knocking down their shots and beating us down the floor which is why they had the lead," Lorenz said.
The Bobcats gained momentum throughout the second half and took a 69-64 lead with just over two minutes remaining.
"Our comeback was due to hustling and not having as many breakdowns defensively," Lorenz said.
After a couple more stops down the stretch, the Bobcats went on their way to capture their 11th win in 12 games and improved to 12-3 overall and 8-0 in the region.
Kiara Donaldson (Milwaukee, WI) led the Bobcats with 15 points and five steals followed by Ashley Quezaire (Milwaukee, WI) with 12 points off the bench.
Maddy McCoy (Champaign, IL) added 11 points while Kyla Pitts (Milwaukee, WI), Ashley Williams (Aurora, IL) and Jazlyn Drake (Milwaukee, WI) all tacked on nine points.
A special victory for the Bobcats as Coach Lorenz earns his 100th win and the team continues their winning streak.
The Bobcats were scheduled to host Kennedy-King College tonight (December 20, 2017) but the Statesmen have forfeited the game which will move the Bobcats at 13-3 overall and 9-0 in the region.
The Bobcats have certainly been on a roll lately both on and off the court as the team's G.P.A for the first semester was a 3.46.
"Academics is always the most important thing and I am very proud of how well they all are doing in the classroom," Lorenz said.
Up next for the Bobcats is a Region IV match-up at home on Thursday, December 21 at 5:00pm vs Oakton Community College. The Bobcats will look to continue down this road of success and improve to 14-3.
