Sophomore Day: Bobcats Reap Double Figure Victory Over Marquette Club

WAUWATOSA, WI (February 3, 2019) - In the final home game of the 2018-19 season, the Bryant & Stratton College women's basketball team defeated Marquette Club 73-48 on Saturday earning their 15th win of the season.
The victory improved the Bobcats to 15-9 overall and 7-6 in region play.
Bobcats head coach Jeff Lorenz honored his sophomores prior to the game as it was potentially the final time five of the players would step-foot on the their home floor.
Hosting an opening round game in postseason play still remains to be solitified for the Bobcats as the playoff hosts will be determined at the conclusion of the regular sesaon.
The stellar win over Marquette Club was due in part to sophomore forward Maddy McCoy dropping 13 points, 16 rebounds and three blocks. McCoy shot 6-13 from the field on her final home game of the season.
Along with McCoy, the other four sophomores in Brandilyn Robertson, Ja'Taviah Conley, Valerie Nzeakor and Cherokee Jones found themselves contributing to the double-digit win.
Robertson produced eight points and seven rebounds followed by Nzeakor with two points and seven rebounds. Conley added two points and five rebounds while Jones grabbed one board and two steals.
Freshman guard Taynique Hawthorne led all scorers with 18 points. four rebounds and three steals while shooting 8-8 from the charity stripe. Adding 10 points off of the bench was freshman guard Essence Rayford.
"This was a great experience for the players and fans today," Lorenz said. "I am glad we were able to honor our sophomores on their committment to this program."
Despite the pregame celebration for the sophomores, the Bobcats remained focused on the game as they dominated the first half and led Marquette Club 42-22 to start the third quarter.
After back-and-forth battle throughout the third, the Bobcats remained ahead and led 56-38 to start the final quarter after Robertson knocked in a contested layup with seconds remaining.
Midway through the fourth, Bryant & Stratton lifted their lead to 26 points (67-41) after Rayford knocked down a jump shot from eight feet.
With just under a minute left in the contest, the Bobcats pulled ahead by 30 (73-43) to seal the deal.
"Winning the game obviously made our day of celebrating our sophomores much more enjoyable," Lorenz said.
Bryant & Stratton shot 36.4% from the field and only 8.3% from beyond the arc.

The Bobcats will travel to Malta, IL on Wednesday to take on the Kishwaukee College Kougars.
Tip-off will take place at 5:30pm.
The Bobcats earned an 83-39 victory last season against the Kougars and will look for a similar result on Wednesday.
