The #10-ranked Lady Bobcats women's basketball team (23-6) are in the midst of a historic season, and are only one game away from becoming NJCAA Region IV District L champions. With Marleah Drake, Kiarra Otto, and La'Janique Perry-Ellis receiving all-region honors, the Bobcats are in prime position to win the regional championship.
In the regional semifinal, the Bobcats handily defeated Triton College 86-57. Yet again, Perry-Ellis led the way for the Bobcats. The All-American nominee piled on 26 points in the victory all while shooting 7-12 from the field on 4-7 from behind the arc. Perry-Ellis filled the stat sheet, as she also posted 9 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals. Marleah Drake also put together a solid outing, scoring 16 points and being the main distributor on offense, tallying 8 assists on the night.
"This team has had its sights on a National Tournament appearance since its first day of practice," said Bobcats Associate Athletic Director Ryan Ratajewski. "Losing in the regional finals last season really stuck with the returning sophomores, coach Jeff Lorenz and the coaching staff. This is the most determined and focused team the college has had in our short history of BSC athletics."
The Bobcats are set to take on Black Hawk College-Moline (22-10) in the regional final tomorrow at noon at Moraine Valley Community College. Bryant & Stratton defeated Black Hawk 76-53 in the regular season.
