MILWAUKEE, Wis. (November 6, 2017) – The Bryant & Stratton College men's basketball team traveled to Wahpeton, ND this past weekend for the NDSCS Classic Tournament where they finished 0-2.
The tournament took place over the course of two days. To open up the tournament, the Bobcats squared off against the Northeast Community College-Nebraska Hawks where they suffered a season opening loss 85-80. Northeast Community College-Nebraska competes at the NJCAA division I level as the Bobcats compete at the division II level.
The Hawks jumped out to an early lead and at the end of the first half the Bobcats trailed 43-26.
"They just jumped out early on us which made it very tough for us to overcome the deficit in the second half," Bobcats head coach Brian Richert said.
Trailing by 17 to start the quarter, the Bobcats were able to close the gap and bring the score to 58-55 with 9:00 left in the game. At the 6:00 mark the Bobcats trailed 68-63.
"We played very hard in the second half and executed very well," Richert said. "We definitely were in a position to win the game."
Despite the second half come-back the Bobcats suffered a five-point loss in their season opener.
Game 2:
Rebounding from a hard fought battle on Saturday, the Bobcats squared off against the North Dakota State College of Science Wildcats on Sunday where they fell short 83-68.
The Bobcats came out with energy and lead the wildcats 31-28 at the end of the first half.
"We played great to start the game," Richert said. "This is a tough NJCAA division I team and we battled and executed on both sides of the floor."
The Wildcats retaliated in the second half which made for a back-and-forth battle throughout the rest of the game and with 7:15 to go in the game the Bobcats remained ahead 60-56.
"In a close game like this it always comes down to executing down the stretch and unfortunately we were not able to do so," Richert said.
At the 3:57 mark, the Wildcats took the lead 67-62 and the Bobcats were not able to recover.
Lincoln Weisemen (Lake Geneva, WI) lead the Bobcats with 25 points and seven rebounds followed by Brian Bearden (Germantown, WI) with 24 points and six rebounds.
