MILWAUKEE, WIS. (December 13, 2017) – The Bryant & Stratton College men's basketball team hosted Kankakee Community College last night and defeated the Cavaliers 92-81 in a Region IV match-up. The Bobcats have now won three of their last four contests and improve their record to 6-6 and 4-3 in the region. Box Score
Kankakee Community College is an NJCAA Division I program and now stand at 2-8 overall and 0-3 in the region after the loss last night.
Getting off to a slow start, the Bobcats trailed the Cavaliers by four with just over nine minutes remaining in the first half. After a timeout by head coach, Brian Richert, the Bobcats changed up their defensive scheme and pulled ahead 40-34 with three minutes to go in the half.
"They are a very high-energy team that can really put up points in the paint," Richert said. "We knew we needed to keep them out of the paint in order to take the lead."
Leading 48-41 at the break, the Bobcats switched up their style of offense for the second half. Driving to the basket and getting to the free throw line was the key for the Bobcats throughout the remainder of the game.
"We slowed down their tempo by getting to the line and knocking down our free throws," Richert said. "We also moved the ball extremely well offensively."
Despite the Cavaliers making multiple efforts to make a run, Coach Richert and the Bobcats went on their way to capture their sixth win of the season.
Lincoln Wieseman (Lake Geneva, WI) led the way for the Bobcats with 28 points and 11 rebounds followed by Lewrenzo Byers (Brown Deer, WI) with 16 points and six assists.
Brian Bearden (Germantown, WI) added on 15 points off the bench.
The Bobcats will travel to Kalamazoo, MI on Saturday to square off against Kalamazoo Valley Community College.
