MILWAUKEE, WIS. (January 5, 2018) – The Bryant & Stratton College men's basketball team hosted the no. 5 nationally ranked South Suburban team last night and came up short down the stretch 76-66. The Bobcats moved to 10-9 overall and 7-4 in the region.
Falling behind early, the Bobcats trailed the Bulldogs 23-17 with nine minutes remaining in the first half. After a couple field goals by freshman point guard, Jamaal Gill, the Bobcats pulled within three points with just over 4 minutes remaining in the half.
"We picked up our defensive pressure and started executing which put us in a good position before the end of the half," Bobcats head coach Brian Richert said.
With just over a minute remaining in the half, Bobcats forward, Lincoln Wieseman, made a key basket to trail the Bulldogs just two points.
"This is a tough nationally ranked program and I was very proud of the way we battled against them," Richert said.
With thirteen minutes remaining in the game, the Bobcats took a four-point lead and seemed to have all of the momentum going their way.
Over the course of five minutes, the Bulldogs responded by creating turnovers and knocking down shots from beyond the arc. The Bulldogs tied the game up 56-56 with eight minutes remaining.
"We just had some uncharacteristic turnovers which allowed them to tie the game and pull away with a win," Richert said.
At the three-minute mark, the Bobcats trailed only by one but never could regain the lead and suffered their third consecutive loss.
Leading the way for the Bobcats was Lincoln Wieseman (Lake Geneva, WI) with 18 points followed by Jamaal Gill (Aurora, IL) with 13 points off the bench.
Jarel Triplett (E. Chicago, IL) added 12 points and five rebounds.
Up next for the Bobcats is a region iv contest at Prairie State College on Saturday. Prairie State currently stands at 4-10 overall and 4-7 in the region.
