Brookens, McDermed Lead the Way in Dominant Win Over Rams

WAUWATOSA, WI (November 11, 2018) - After suffering their first road loss of the season, the Bryant & Stratton College men's basketball team blew out the Wilbur Wright Rams 102-77 at home on Saturday earning their first Region IV Division II win of the season. The Bobcats improved to 2-1 overall on the year and 1-1 in region play.
Dominating from the tip, the Bobcats stretched their lead to 13 (35-22) after a three-point shot from freshman guard, Ryley Clark, with just over six minutes remaining in the first half.
"I was really excited to get out and play again so quickly after a tough loss," Bobcats head coach Matt Majkrzak said. "We had a great practice on Friday and I think we really learned from the Southeastern game."
Putting on a display of hot-shooting, sophomore guard, Kyle McDermed, knocked down a jumper to extend the lead to 15.
With seconds remaining before the break, the Rams scored on a transition basket which cut the deficit to a 50-37 score at the half.
Battling through the opening minutes of the second half, freshman, Chris Thompson, put in a layup with 12 minutes left to put the Bobcats up by 17.
"Regardless of what the scoreboard says, we need to focus on doing the little things properly," Majkrzak said. "For us thats valuing the ball, playing fast and sharing the basketball offensively."
After a series of trading baskets by both sides, freshman guard, Justin Brookens, sealed the win for the Bobcats after knocking down a three-point shot with four minutes left to put the Bobcats up by 20.
"Despite the win, we still have a lot of work to do especially on the defensive end," Marjkrzak said. "The guys definitely got better tonight though."
McDermed led the way for the Bobcats with 25 points, seven rebounds and three assists followed by Brookens with 22 points on 8-12 shooting from the field.
Thompson produced 14 points and seven rebounds while freshman sharp shooter, Manny Jingco, tacked on 13 points on 3-6 shooting from beyond the arc.
As a team, the Bobcats shot 47.1% from the field and 33.3% from beyond the arc.

The Bobcats will have a week to prepare as they host Malcom X College on Saturday, November 17.
