WAUWATOSA, WI (May 1, 2018) - Over this past weekend the Bryant & Stratton College men's golf team competed in three separate tournaments including the first-ever Bobcat Invitational in program history. At the Bobcat Invitational on Friday the Bobcats took sixth place, 11th place at the Wisconsin Luthernan Invitational on Saturday and 9th place at the Forester Invitational on Sunday.
Bobcat Invitational - 04/27 (6th Place)
The one-day tournament consisted of 10 different teams and all five Bobcat golfers, Maxwell Rohlinger, Garrett Waloway, Thomas Bleich, Tyler Murrie, Aaron Gosse, competed. On the front nine, the Bobcats finished +15 and concluded the round at +47.
"I thought we competed the entire day," Bobcats head coach Andy Runkel said. "There were just a few holes that we struggled on but overall we stayed competitive and put the pressure on our opponents."
Freshman, Rohlinger, took first place individually for the entire tournament finishing with a score of 77 (+5).
"Max played outstanding," Runkel said. "The amount of work he puts into his game showed out their today on the golf course."
Sophomore, Waloway, tied for eigth place (+9), Murrie (Fr) tied for 26th (+15), Bleich (So) tied for 34th (+18) and Gosse (So) tied for 43rd (+25).
WLC Invitational - 04/28 (11th Place)
Following the Bobcat Invitational, the Bobcats went on the road Saturday, April 28 to compete in the Wisconsin Lutheran Invitational at the Washington County Golf Course located in Hartford, WI. The invitational held 13 teams and Bryant & Stratton competed as the only NJCAA program.
At the conclusion of the one-day tournament, the Bobcats shot a team total of 320 which put them at +32.
"The guys remained positive when they had some bad holes and were able to bounce back to the middle of the pack," Runkel said.
Rohlinger led the way shooting a 77 (+5) to tie for 19th place individually. Following close behind, Waloway shot a 79 (+7) to tie for 29th place, Murrie 81 (+9) tied for 42nd and Bleich 83 (+11) tied for 50th.
Forester Invitational - 04/29 (9th Place)
On the final day of the weekend, the Bobcats traveled to Thunderhawk Golf Club located in Beach park, Ill. to compete in their final tournament of the season before the National Tournament. A tournament of 12 teams, the Bobcats finished with a team score of 328 which placed them 32 (+40) strokes back from the winner.
"This tournament was a great experience for the guys as they were able to compete with very talented golfers," Runkel said.
Rohlinger led the way for the Bobcats for the third straight tournament finishing with a score of 77 (+5) to tie for 16th place. Making a comeback from his previous round, Bleich shot an 80 (+8) to tie for 25th, Waloway finished at 81 (+9) to tie for 31st and Murrie tied for 59th with a score of 90 (+18).
Taking the positives and negatives from all three invitationals, the Bobcats will look to continue improving over the offseason and come back next season ready to compete.
Up next, Rohlinger and Waloway will compete in the NJCAA National Tournament located in Foley, AL on May 21. They both mark as the first-ever golfers in Bobcat history to qualify for the National Tournemnt.
