SUGAR GROVE, IL (April 26, 2019) - Two highly competitive battles between the Bryant & Stratton College softball team (12-23) and the Waubonsee Community College Chiefs resulted in a series sweep for the Chiefs on Thursday afternoon as the Bobcats came up short with scores of 6-5 in game one and 8-7 in game two
The losses drop the Bobcats down to 3-10 in region play.
GAME ONE VS WAUBONSEE COMMUNITY COLLEGE (6-5 LOSS)
With the game tied at 2-2 in the top of the third, Samantha Flannery (Fr.) drove in two runs for the Bobcats on a line drive single to right field.
In the bottom of the inning, the Chiefs matched the Bobcats scoring two runs of their own to tie the game back-up at 4-4.
After a scorless top of the fourth, the Chiefs scored three-runs in the bottom of the inning giving them a 7-4 advantage.
The Bobcats cut the score down to a two-run game (6-4) heading into the top of the seventh. With two-outs, Melissa Biefeld (So.) brought in the fifth run of the game for the Bobcats cutting the lead down to 6-5.
Despite momentum swinging their way, the Bobcats failed to get over the hump as Waubonsee forced the last out at the next at-bat.
Olivia Miller (Fr.) finished the game with two hits and one RBI followed by Flannery with one hit and two RBI's.
Mercedes Griesbach tossed all six-innings allowing four earned runs and striking out two.
GAME TWO VS WAUBONSEE COMMUNITY COLLEGE (8-7 LOSS)
In game two, Waubonsee got out to an early 3-1 lead after three-innings but Bryant & Stratton's bats came alive in the top of the fourth as they tacked on six-runs.
Biefield started things off for the Bobcats on a two-run single to left field to tie the game up at 3-3 followed by a three-run double from Brianna Zook (Fr.) giving the Bobcats a 6-3 edge.
The final run of the inning came from Olivia Miller (Fr.) who drove in the seventh run of the game for the Bobcats on a single to right field.
Leading 7-3 with nine-outs remaining to capture the win, the Chiefs did not give up as they managed to score five-runs in the final three innings to steal the win.
Zook finished with two hits and three RBI's followd by Kelly Schiller (Fr.) with three hits and one RBI.
Schiller threw 5.1 innings giving up seven earned runs.

Bryant & Stratton will take on Sauk Valley Community College for another Region IV double header on Friday afternoon.
First pitch of game one will be tossed at 12:00pm.
