MILWAUKEE, Wis. (November 6, 2017) – The Bryant & Stratton College women's basketball team wrapped up the NDSCS Classic Tournament yesterday in Wahpeton, ND where they finished 0-2.
The Bobcats squared off against a very tough Northeast Community College-Nebraska team on Saturday and fell short 71-36. Northeast Community College competes at the division I level in the NJCAA as Bryant & Stratton competes at the division II level.
Northeast Community College jumped out of the gates hot as they out-scored the Bobcats 18-7 at the end of the first quarter and after taking an 11 point lead the Bobcats were never able to recover.
"We did not execute on either side of the floor," Bobcats head coach Jeff Lorenz said. "Give credit to the other team though. They played extremely well and made things difficult on us."
The Bobcats trailed 42-16 at the end of the first half but managed to keep the second half competitive.
"Although we were outscored by 13 in the second half, we played much harder on the defensive side of the floor," Lorenz said.
The Bobcats attempeted to make several runs to close the gap but ran out of gas by the start of the fourth quater.
Game 2:
After a tough defeat on Saturday, the Bobcats tipped-off against the host, North Dakota State College of Science Wildcats, on Sunday where they fell short 96-60. North Dakota State College of Science competes at the division I level in the NJCAA.
The Bobcats got off to a slow start trailing 25-12 at the end of the first quarter.
"I thought the effort was outstanding but we just made some mental mistakes which allowed them to take a big lead on us early," Lorenz said.
Despite a slow start, the Bobcats managed to out-score the Wildcats 27-26 at the end of the second quarter but with such a big deficit they were never were able to recover.
"This was a great experience for us," Lorenz said. "We were able to come here and compete against very good division I teams and now we can go back and improve on the mistakes we made."
Kyla Pitts (Milwaukee, WI) lead the team with 12 points and three steals followed by Ashley Williams (Aurora, IL) with 10 points and two steals.
Jazlyn Drake (Milwaukee, WI) tacked on 10 points and four rebounds.
Lorenz and his coaching staff will make adjustments and look to get back on track. The Bobcats currently stand at an overall record of 1-2 and 1-0 in the region.
The next game for the Bobcats takes place at Marian University located in Fond Du Lac, WI. The game will be considered an exhibition game and not counted against either team's record as Marian University competes for the NCAA.
