MILWAUKEE, WIS. (December 13, 2017) – The Bryant & Stratton College women's basketball team defeated Highland Community College last night 75-66 in a Region IV match-up. This marked as the sixth win in-a-row for the Bobcats as they improve to 11-3 overall and 6-0 in region play. Box Score
Highland Community College is an NJCAA Division I program and now stand at 5-4 overall and 4-2 in the region after the loss last night.
An up-tempo battle right at tip-off led to an 18-15 lead for the Bobcats at the end of the first quarter. After multiple drives to the basket by Kiara Donaldson and tough jump shots by Ashley Williams, the bobcats extended the lead to 12 at the break.
"This is a tough division 1 program and despite dry stretches throughout the half we stuck to the game plan and gained a double-digit lead," Bobcats head coach Jeff Lorenz said.
The third quarter was a struggle for the Bobcats as they shot just 22% from the field and 58% from the free-throw line. With their poor shooting, the Bobcats extended their defensive pressure full court to create turnovers for easy baskets.
"It is important to not get lazy on defense when we are struggling offensively," Lorenz said. "Despite our struggles offensively we stayed strong on defense and were able to maintain the lead."
The Bobcats kept a double-digit lead throughout the half and went on their way to capturing their 11th win of the season.
Kiara Donaldson (Milwaukee, WI) led the way for the Bobcats with 19 points on 5 of 10 shooting from the field and 3 of 6 from beyond the arc.
Kyla Pitts (Milwaukee, WI) added on 13 points followed by Ashley Williams (Aurora, IL) with nine points and nine rebounds.
Next up for the Bobcats is another Region IV contest at McHenry County College on December 19. The Bobcats defeated McHenry 75-72 last season.
McHenry stands 7-4 overall and 4-3 in region play.
