WAUWATOSA, WI (October 22, 2018) – On Sunday, the inaugural Bryant & Stratton College women's soccer program competed in their first-ever playoff game where they fell short at Waubonsee Community College 2-1. The Bobcats finished out their inaugural season with a record of 5-6-1.
Clinching a playoff birth back in early October, the Bobcats earned a seventh seed to open up on the road against the number two seeded Chiefs. Bryant & Stratton hosted the Chiefs earlier in September and suffered a 4-0 loss.
Looking for revenge this time around, the Bobcats still came up short despite a valiant effort.
It was the cheifs who struck first as they knocked in the first goal of the opening round of the playoffs at the fifteen minute mark to take an early 1-0 lead.
A scoreless first half for the Bobcats, Head Coach Lucas Henderson was still very satisfied with how the team performed.
"I was extrememly pleased with our defensive effort," Henderson said.
To start the second half, Bobcat's midfielder, Syndney Norlander, waited little time to tie the game as she scored the team's first goal of the contest just two minutes into the half to tie the score at one a-piece.
Responding quickly, the Chiefs were able to recapture the lead after scoring off of a penalty kick with 37 minutes left in the contest.
Despite multiple shots on goal throughout the remaining minutes, the Bobcats were unable to tie the game and headed home empty-handed.
Freshman, Norlander, led the way for the Bobcats with one goal, one shot on goal, and one shot followed by freshman, Lynette Ocampo, with one shot on goal and two shots.
Goalkeeper, Derica Ohms, closed out her season with a phenomenal game producing 14 saves.
"We made every shot difficult for them and Derica had a fanstastic game in goal," Henderson said.
The Bryant & Stratton inaugural program gave the college a lot to look forward to for years to come and Henderson is already anxious for next season to get started.
"I do not think there was much expecation for this program among opposing region coaches being our first year," Henderson said. "We managed to make every game a true competitive battle while exceeding expectations and beating some great teams. I am extremely proud."
With signing day coming up on November 1, Henderson will be excited to re-sign his current players and get out on the recruiting trail to add to his already talanted roster.
"We will look to develop our exisiting talent over the next nine months and the recruiting of top talent has already been underway. This group can do great things next year once we add some depth."
