WAUWATOSA, WI (August 30, 2018) - In their first contest in program history, the Bryant & Stratton College volleyball team snatched a 3-2 victory against the Highland Community College-Illinois Cougars on Wednesday night. The Bobcats went into five matches against the Cougars with scores of 25-17, 16-25 16-25, 25-22, and 15-11.
"We started out with high energy and explosiveness in game one," Bobcats head coach Heather Curley said. "We were fatigued in games two and three but after making adjustments and knowing that the girls had a lot of fans back home watching them live (on the OFFICIAL YOUTUBE CHANNEL) brought back that energy and competitiveness to win game four."
Competing with just six players, all freshman, the Bobcats hit at a .232 K% followed by a .400% in the final match. They finished with 49 kills and 53 assists on the offensive side, while the defense produced five blocks and 23 digs.
"With only six players, we knew fatigue would be an issue but winning game four helped set the pace in game five," Curley said. "I told them "you don't win game four to lose game five"."
Andrea Miranda (Puerto Rico) led the way for the Bobcats with 17 kills on 38 attempts. Kyenna Stanley-Reckin (Eagle, WI) posted 15 kills followed by Gabriela Lopez (Puerto Rico) with 11 kills and a .360 K%. Evelis Vicenty racked up 48 assists.
