Bobcats walk-off Pioneers in Game 1
MILWAUKEE — Coming off a thrilling win against MATC, Bryant & Stratton College baseball had its home opener on March 29 against the Prairie State College Pioneers.
Zach Rechner started for Bryant & Stratton, but the Pioneers would strike first, bringing two runs across the plate in the first inning. However, Brayden Pleau cut the lead in half with an RBI double.
Prairie State College would again score, bringing in its third run of the game, but the Bobcats remained resilient. Alex Esser recorded an RBI and brought in Ryan Weed, who was hit by a pitch in his at at.
Rechner continued to work on the mound but exited after four innings. He struck out five batters and allowed three hits in his appearance. He exited after Weed tied the game with his first home run of the season, and Brayden Thompson took over on the mound.
He held the Pioneers at bay in the fifth inning, but the Pioneers were able to grab the lead again in the top of the sixth. The lead was shortlived as Carlos Walta started a rally for the Bobcats with a walk. Brogan Hicks pinch-ran for him and reached scoring position after stealing a base. Weed again delivered with an RBI and the Bobcats tied the game.
Bryant & Stratton called upon Alex Breckheimer, a recent Kansas baseball commit, to hold down the fort, and he delivered. Breckheimer had solid five innings of relief, struck out nine batters and had one blemish, a hit-by-pitch.
Breckheimer’s brilliance allowed the Bobcats to stay in the game, and in the bottom of the 11th inning, they capitalized on the opportunity. Esser and Sean Riley started the inning with back-to-back singles, and Luis Serrano followed them with a walk. With the bases loaded, Quinn Baier hit a line-drive single to bring in Riley and continue the Bobcats' winning streak.
