MILWAUKEE, WI (November 29, 2017) – The Bryant & Stratton College men's basketball team went on the road last night and defeated the Malcom X College Hawks 79-73 in a Region IV match-up. The Bobcats improved to 4-5 overall and 3-2 in region play.
Malcom X College is an NJCAA Region IV Division I program and were undefeated on the season going into yesterday's game. The Bobcats were able to end that streak and give them their first loss of the year. The Hawks now sit at 4-1 overall and 1-1 in the region.
An up-tempo game opened up with the Bobcats jumping out to an early 27-19 lead with six minutes left the first half.
With just under three minutes remaining in the half, the Bobcats put on a full-court zone defense which caused havoc for the Hawks and led to 13-point advantage at the half.
"In a fast-paced game like that it is important to switch up defensive schemes and strategies to keep the opposition on their heels," Bobcats head coach Brian Richert said. "They like to run; so we needed to counter that game-plan by switching up our defense."
To start the second half, the Bobcats struck first with a steal and quick transition basket by sophomore forward, Lincoln Wieseman.
The Hawks responded to the Bobcats energy and cut lead to six with just over 13 minutes remaining in the game.
"Give the Hawks credit; they were knocking down tough shots and moving the ball extremely well offensively," Richert said.
Despite a couple late runs, the Bobcats were able to maintain the lead and come out with a six-point victory against a very tough Region IV Division I program.
Lincoln Wieseman (Lake Geneva, WI) led the Bobcats with 16 points followed by Brian Bearden (Germantown, WI) with 14 points.
Jarel Triplett (Chicago, IL) added on 12 points and Lewrenzo Byers (Brown Deer, Wi) tacked on 11 points.
The Bobcats have won four of their last six contests and will look to capture another win Thursday night at home against Madison College. Madison College is an NJCAA Region IV Division III program and currently stands at 4-3 overall and 4-2 in the region.
Tip-off will take place at 7:30pm and spectators can watch the game live HERE
