MILWAUKEE, Wis. (May 23, 2017) – Bryant & Stratton College is thrilled to announce the signing of Cherokee Jones out of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Jones will be putting on a Bobcat jersey for the women's basketball 2017-18 season.
The 6'0" forward out of North Division Charter High School averaged 10 rebounds and five points per game senior year.
A three-year varsity starter, Cherokee helped lead her team to three consecutive division titles and a conference championship her junior season.
"I am very excited for Cherokee," North Division Charter High School Head women's basketball coach Jermaine Ousley said. "She just started playing basketball three years ago and has come a long way."
A dominant forward with a 6'2 wing span has been on the Bobcats coaching staff radar for quite some time which makes them very pleased with her commitment to the program.
"I have been scouting her over the past year and her rebounding ability is off the charts," Bobcats Head coach Jeff Lorenz said. "Her passion for the game is what really makes me excited to bring her on board."
The bar is set high for Jones coming in as a freshman but she will be training heavily this offseason to get herself prepared.
"I will be training all summer in and out of the gym," Jones said. "If I am not at work I will be at the gym."
Jone's work ethic definitely comes from her high school coach who has given her tremendous advice as she transitions to the college level.
"This offseason Cherokee will need to increase her endurance," Ousley said. "Once she is able to understand the difference between the college edurance level and high school endurance level she will be more than ready. I have prepared her for that though."
Jones will graduate from high school this June and then start preparing mentally and physically to succeed the high expectations that have been set.
"The sky is the limit for Cherokee and any limitation I have set for her she has surpassed." Ousley said.
Despite a great commitment in Jones, the Bobcats coaching staff will continue on the recruiting trail for the remainder of the offseason as they set their sights on the 2017-18 national title.
