MILWAUKEE, WIS. (December 11, 2017) – The Bryant & Stratton College women's basketball team hosted Gogebic Community College on Saturday and continued their streak of wins by defeating the Samsons 93-87. Box Score
The Bobcats moved to 9-3 overall and remain 5-0 in region play.
A hard fought battle by both teams resulted in just a six-point victory for the Bobcats, which is their smallest margin of victory this season.
"I thought we came out with a lack of energy and the other team came ready to steal a win," Bobcats head coach Jeff Lorenz said. "Fortunately we were able to dig ourselves out of a hole."
The Bobcats trailed by 10 points with four minutes remaining in the first quarter which forced Lorenz to call a timeout in hopes of stopping the Samsons run.
Post timeout, the Bobcats made a stop defensively and capitalized on a transition basket.
Returning Second Team All-American, Kiara Donaldson (Milwaukee, WI), knocked down two back-to-back threes before the end of the first which pulled the Bobcats within two points to start the second quarter.
"We picked up our defensive effort and pushed the ball up the floor which is when we are at our best," Lorenz said.
The Bobcats continued executing throughout the second quarter and led the Samsons 50-43 to start the second half. Despite multiple runs by the Bobcats, the Samsons refused to be put away early as they kept the game close throughout the rest of the game.
"Give them credit; they fought hard and really challenged us," Lorenz said. "It was a grind-out game until the end."
Kiara Donaldson led the way for the Bobcats with 21 points and seven assists followed by Kyla Pitts (Milwaukee, WI) with 15 points.
Ashley Williams (Aurora, IL) tacked on 12 points and Maddy McCoy (Champaign, IL) contributed a double-double with 12 points and 11 boards.
Gabrielle Norwood (Milwaukee, WI) added on 14 points off the bench.
Up next for the Bobcats is a home contest tonight vs Concordia University. Concordia University is a NCAA Division III program.
The Bobcats will look to capture another victory and extend their win-streak to five in-a-row.
