WAUWATOSA, (November 11, 2018) - Coming off of a fifteen point win on Wednsday, the Bryant & Stratton College women's basketball team took the floor against the Black Hawk College-Moline Braves and earned an 86-59 victory at home.
The win marked as the Bobcats first Region IV Division II victory of the season and improved their record to 2-1 overall.
To start the game, it was the Bobcats who attacked first as they jumped out to a 14-5 lead after a made jumper by freshman guard, Serinity Jackson, with five minutes remaining in the first quater.
"It is always important for us to get out to a strong start right from the tip," Bobcats head coach Jeff Lorenz said. "We did a great job of not letting off the gas and continuing to build on the lead."
Piling on the points is exactly what the Bobcats did as they stretched their lead to 24-13 going into the second quarter.
At the start of the second quarter, the Bobcats continued to pour it on the Braves as Essence Rayford and Brandilyn Robertson scored back-to-back baskets just a minute into the quarter to make it a 28-13 score.
"We continued to stay aggressive and not get complacent," Lorenz said.
At halftime, the Bobcats held the Braves to 26 total points and led 48-26.
Momentum in the second half continued to stay on the Bobcats side as they extended their lead to 25 points after a made layup from sophomore guard, Valerie Nzeakor, which clinched the victory for the Bobcats.
"Although we scored a lot of points, our defense was the key to the win," Lorenz said. "We were out in the passing lanes and made it very difficult on them to score."
Freshman guard, Kiyanna Rodgers, led the team with 14 points followed by Robertson with 13 points and nine rebounds.
Rayford contributed 13 points off the bench.
As a team the Bobcats shot 35.2% from the field and 65.5% from the charity stripe.
