WAUWATOSA, WI (February 18, 2019) - Competing in their third consecutive road match, the Bryant & Stratton College women's basketball team (17-10, 9-6 region) found the energy to defeat the Illinois Valley Community College Eagles (13-11, 12-9 region) 83-63 on Friday evening.
Freshman guard, Kiyanna Rodgers led the way with a team-high 24 points, five rebounds and four steals.
Sophomore forward Ja'Taviah Conley dropped 12 points, nine rebounds, three assists and two steals followed by sophomore forward Maddy McCoy with 8 points.
Freshman guard Taynique Hawthorne contribued 11 points on 4-6 shooting including 2-3 from beyond the arc.
Trading baskets throughout the first half, Conley lifted the Bobcats to a 28-22 lead after a swift spin move in the lane with two minutes remaining before the break.
"Both teams fought hard," Bobcats head coach Jeff Lorenz said. "They knocked down tough shots but we were able to execute offensively as well."
Over the final two minutes of the half, the Bobcats surged out on a 7-0 run to lead 35-22 at half.
To start the third quarter, Bryant & Stratton kept their foot on the gas as they continued to pile on the points leading 64-42 with the final quarter left to play.
"We came out strong to start the second half," Lorenz said.
Continuing with her solid play, Conley kept the offense flowing for the Bobcats as she opened up the quarter with a coast-to-coast lay up through traffic.
"We played very well as a team," Lorenz said. "Ja'Taviah and Kiyanna both played exceptional though."
With just over a minue left on the clock, Bryant & Stratton saw themselves earning their 17th win of the season early as they held a commanding 80-63 lead with no signs of the Eagles coming back.
"This was an important win for us," Lornez said. "The playoffs are right around the corner and it was nice to us playing well."
The Bobcats shot 61.0% percent from the field 34.8% from beyond the arc.
