Bobcats Compete at Indoor Track and Field National Championships
The Bobcats finished up the indoor portion of their season at the NJCAA Indoor National Championships hosted by Washburn University on March 3rd and 4th. In just their second indoor track and field season in program history, the Bobcats were represented by four individual national qualifiers.
The long jump was the first event featuring Bobcat athletes, with Emmanuel Asabere and Ritish Sharma competing. Asabere jumped 6.81 meters on his second jump, which was good for 23rd place. Sharma, who came into the meet ranked 23rd, was able to improve upon that and finished 17th with a jump of 6.96 meters. Sharma's jump was a personal best for him in the event.
Next up was the high jump, which featured Jaivon Harrison. Harrison is no stranger to the National Championships, having qualified in every season of his collegiate career so far. He entered the meet ranked second in the high jump. Harrison cleared his first five heights but had a few close misses when the bar reached 2.18 meters. Harrison ended up finishing in 2nd place, clearing 2.15 meters, his best this indoor season. This performance earned him All-American honors for the fourth time as a Bobcat.
Day two of the championships for the Bobcats began with the triple jump, with Ritish Sharma competing. This was Sharma's second year in a row competing in the triple jump at the National Championships. Entering the event ranked 22nd, Sharma was able to improve on this mark with a 17th place finish, jumping 13.17 meters.
To close the meet for the Bobcats, Khersa Morgan competed in the weight throw. Morgan, like Harrison, has qualified for the National Championships in each season of her Bobcat career. Morgan's best throw of the day came on her first attempt, where she threw 12.83 meters. Morgan finished in 18th place in the event.

Overall, the men's team finished in 22nd place, which was an improvement from their 27th place finish last year.
Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Brian Lief was very pleased with the performances this past weekend. "I felt that our athletes were composed and confident throughout the two-day championship meet. There were times that a jump or throw did not go as expected, but they trusted their training and were able to get the job done. All four of them have worked hard throughout the season, and were able to execute well on the national stage" Lief wants his athletes to use their experience competing at the indoor championships to motivate them for the rest of the season, adding that "I am confident that these athletes, as well as other members of the team, will continue putting in the work needed to qualify for the outdoor championships in May."
Next up, the Bobcats will be traveling to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina to compete in the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational, hosted by Coastal Carolina University. The meet will be contested over three days, with action beginning on March 16th.
