WAUWATOSA, WI (March 25, 2018) – The Bryant & Stratton College baseball team hosted Morton College for their home opener on Saturday where they split a double header and captured their first win in program history. The Bobcats fell 15-8 in game one and won 5-4 in game two. The Bobcats now improve to 1-6 on the season.
03/25/2018 – Game 1 vs. Morton College (15-8 L)
Morton College struck first putting up 12 runs after three innings of play. After a dry spell of going scoreless through three innings, the Bobcats put four up on the board in the bottom of the fourth to cut the deficit to eight runs.
Holding Morton scoreless in the top of the fifth and sixth, the Bobcats had bases loaded before Peyton Tisi (RF) was hit by a pitch which brought in a run and cut the lead to 12-5. The Bobcats rallied to earn three more runs and made it a 12-7 ball game.
In the top of the inning, Morton struck back tacking on three runs and went on their way to capturing a win in game one of the double header.
Malik Hill (CF) led the way for the Bobcats going 3 for 5 with 1 RBI and 2 runs.
David Paleo (SS) went 1 for 2 with 1 RBI, 2 runs and a walk.
Brandon Maglio (P) threw 2.1 innings giving up eight earned runs and three strikeouts.
Dominick Meyer (P) threw 4.1 innings giving up 3 earned runs and four strikeouts.
03/25/2018 – Game 2 vs. Morton College (5-4 W)
In game two, the Bobcats got on the board early in the bottom of the first with bases loaded when Kyle Taran (1B) brought in Keanu Walkush from third for the first run of the game.
With two outs, Tisi came up to bat and reached first on an error which scored in another run and put the Bobcats up 2-0 going into the second.
After a scoreless inning by both teams in the second, Morton College put one run on the board in the top of the third.
The Bobcats had two outs in the bottom of the third with David Paleo on first base. Peyton Tisi lined one to center to bring Paleo in and make it a 3-1 lead.
Retaliating, Morton scored one in the fourth to trail only 3-2. In the bottom of the fifth, the Bobcats scored another run to put them up 4-2.
In the sixth, Morton had multiple players on base after several errors by the Bobcats. With one out and bases loaded, Morton scored two runs after a fielding error by the Bobcats.
The score was tied 4-4 going into the bottom of the sixth.
Scoring one in the bottom of the sixth, the Bobcats took the lead and shut down Morton in the top of the seventh to capture their first win in program history.
Paleo led the way for the Bobcats going 1 for 2 with 1 run and 2 BB.
Tisi went 1 for 2 with 1 RBI.
Starting pitcher, Keanu Walkush, threw 5.1 innings with three earned runs and five strikeouts.
"It is a nice win for the guys and the program," Bobcats head coach Mike Zolecki said. "We have to continue to make plays for us to be in ball games. With us starting to play many games in-a-row we will be able to start finding our stride."
The Bobcats will take the positives from this contest and look to carry it over to the next upcoming games.
"The guys need to come to the park with the mindset of getting better every day," Zolecki said. "If we do that than we can build a pretty good foundation to start a program here."
