WAUWATOSA WI, (February 25, 2019) - Opening up their season on the road, the Bryant & Stratton College baseball team traveled to Jefferson, MO where they lost 16-5 in game one and 7-6 in game two against the NJCAA Division I #5 ranked Jefferson College Vikings.
The Bobcats find themselves in an 0-2 hole to start the season.
Game 1 vs Jefferson College (16-5 Loss)
After a scoreless inning, the Vikings got on the board first as they tacked on three runs in the bottom of the second.
With one out in the top of the third, Bobcats freshman Ryan Kalinowski stepped up to the plate with bases loaded and brought home the first run of the game after a HBP.
Leading 3-1 going into the bottom of the third, the Vikings earned two more runs to take a 5-1 lead.
Keeping their bats hot, the Vikings tacked on 10 total runs throughout the fourt and fifth to take a commanding 15-1 lead.
Down 14 runs, the Bobcats continued to battle as sophomore David Paleo brought in the second run of the team in the top of the sixth on a single up the middle.
Down 15-2 and two runners on base, sophomore Keanu Walkush brought in two more runs on a line drive to left field.
Despite a late effort, the run deficit was too much for a Bryant & Stratton comeback.
Walkush finished the game with two hits and two RBI's followed by Paleo with one hit, one RBI and one run.
Sophomore Malik Hill produced one hit and one run.
Starting pitcher, Leighton Myers, threw 3 innings with two strikeouts and seven hits.
Parker Walker threw one and 2/3 giving up two runs and four hits while Anthony Ortiz threw one an 1/3 giving up five runs and five hits.
GAME 2 vs Jefferson College (7-6 Loss)
Bryant & Stratton opened up game two of the double header with an early run in the top of the inning after Walker reached on an error to bring in Hill from third base.
In the bottom of the first, the Vikings quickly answered with a run of their own bringing the score to a 1-1 tie.
After scoreless second and third innings, the Bobcats pulled ahead in the top of the fourth after Walker shot one over the center field wall for a solo homerun.
Leading 2-1 in the top of the fourth, Jefferson College retaliated scoring four runs in the fourth and then tacked one more run in the bottom of the fifth.
Trailling 6-2 in the bottom of the sixth, Walker stepped up to the plate again for the Bobcats and launched his second home run of the game cutting the deficit to three runs.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Vikings scored one additional run which left the Bobcats down 7-3 with one final at-bat.
In the top of the seventh, Walkush brought in the fourth run for the Bobcats on a single to center field.
Down 7-4 with two outs, freshman Nicholas Perez cut the run disparity to just two on a single to right field.
Walkush scored the sixth run for the Bobcats on a wild pitch.
Despite a valiant effort in the final inning, the Bobcats failed to get over the hump and suffered their second loss of the season.
Walker led the way for the Bobcats with two hits, two runs and two RBI's followed by Walkush with one hit, one run and one RBI.

Bryant & Stratton will travel to Belleville, IL next weekend to take on Southwestern Illinois College in a three-game series.
Game one will take place on Friday with the first pitch thrown at 2:00pm.
