WAUWATOSA, WI (May 7, 2018) - Bryant & Stratton College is thrilled to announce the signings of Jose Gregorio Sosa Gonzalez, Marcus Caldwell and Dee Woods who will be joining the men's basketball program for the 2018-19 season.
From Barquisimeto, Venezuela, Gonzalez was a three-time member of the state team as well as a champion in the fifth division in Spain in 2016-17. Gonzalez averaged 20 double-doubles in 22 games and grabbed 35 boards in a single game.
"Jose is everything I want out of a forward," Bobcats head coach Matt Majkrzak said. "At 6'8, he has guard skills with the ability to shoot the three and even had a triple double with 10 assists earlier this season. He is also willing to be a dominant rebounder and shot blocker. A true inside/outside threat, I'm excited about all the different ways we will be able to utilize his vast skill set."
From Racine, WI, Caldwell attended William Horlick High School where he competed on the varsity program for two seasons. The 6'3" guard/forward averaged 21.6 points, 4.9 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game while earning First Team All-Conference.
"Marcus is a bucket getter that can score in a variety of ways," Majkrzak said. "He has the ability to post up guards, drive bigger defenders and he shot over 40% from three last season. He is physically ready to play at the college level and was one of the best pure scorers in the state of Wisconsin. With Marcus's athleticism and competitive nature he has the ability to develop into an elite defender."
In the offseasons, Caldwell competed on Butler Elite which is a competitive AAU program based out of Racine, WI.
Woods comes from Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Prior to Kirkwood, Woods competed for William Horlick High School where he was a varsity player for three seeasons. Standing at 6'3", Woods averaged 17 points, six assists and five steals per game his senior season at Horlick.
"Dee has had previous experience playing college basketball at a high level and is someone that I will lean on not just to be a great player but a great leader for our group," Majkrzak said. At 6'3", Dee has the ability to play the point, defend the other team's best player and compete above the rim to score and rebound. I love a good comeback story and I'm very excited to be part of the next chapter of Dee's basketball career."
Bringing in these particular athletes has Majkrzak anxious to get the season started.
"I couldn't be more thrilled to welcome Dee, Marcus, and Jose to the Bobcat family," Majkrzak said. "We got a lot longer, tougher, and athletic today. All three are over 6'3" and extremely versatile players that can score at all three levels and bring a tenacity to the defensive end."
A busy time of recruiting, Majkrzak will remain on a mission to bring in athletes that will take the program to a new level.
