CICERO, IL (April 22, 2019) - After suffering an 0-2 sweep this past weekend, the Bryant & Stratton College softball team (12-21) bounced back with a win of their own defeating the Morton College Panthers 9-4 in seven-innings of play.
A double header was set to take place but due to weather issues game two was forced to be called early which will be marked as "no contest" until a make-up date is scheduled.
The win now moves the Bobcats to 3-8 in region play with 12 region games remaining.
GAME ONE VS MORTON COLLEGE (9-4 WIN)
With the score tied 2-2, the Bobcats broke the game open scoring four runs in the top of the fourth after Meghan Strasser (So.) singled to take a 3-2 advantage.
At the next at-bat, Ashley Weimann (Fr.) tripled on a line drive to center bringing home two runs.
Leading 5-2, the Bobcats remained strong defensively as they shut down the Panthers in the fourth, fifth and sixth.
In the top of the seventh, the Bobcats tacked on four more insurance runs and ran away with the victory.
The Bobcats finished with 12 total hits as Strasser produced three hits and two RBI's in the game followed by Heather Anderson (So.) with three hits and one RBI.
Kelly Schiller (Fr.) added two hits and two RBI's of her own while throwing 6.2 innings and striking out four batters.
GAME TWO VS MORTON COLLEGE - NO CONTEST
Game two will have a potential make-up date that has yet to be determined.
UP NEXT:
Bryant & Stratton will have a couple days off before they travel to Sugar Grove, IL on Thursday afternoon to take on the Waubonsee Community College Chiefs for a double header.
First pitch of game one will be tossed at 2:00pm.
