MILWAUKEE, WIS. (December 7, 2017) – The Bryant & Stratton College women's basketball team reached a milestone this week ranking as a top 20 team in the country. The Bobcats are currently ranked No. 20 in NJCAA Division II basketball, which is the first ever ranked team in Bryant & Stratton College-Wisconsin history. Rankings
Currently standing at 8-3 overall and 5-0 in the region, the Bobcats have been on a roll winning seven of their last eight games including a three game win-streak.
"This is a remarkable achievement for us," Bobcats head coach Jeff Lorenz said. "I see every day how hard these girls work and I am very proud of them."
Launching the program just last year, the women's basketball team made a name for themselves quickly. The Bobcats finished 17-10 overall and ranked as the number one team in the region.
Lorenz and his coaching staff brought back all five starters from last year and recruited top-talent this past off-season which has put the program in a great position thus far.
"Although this is a great accomplishment; it is important for us to understand that we need to continue progressing and improving every day," Lorenz said. "We have a bigger goal this year and we need to remain focused on achieving that."
Freshman Forward, JaTaviah Conley (Milwaukee, WI), is determined to make sure her teammates continue to battle every night. "We play as a team," Conley said. "Every game in the locker room coach tells us effort is our key and that effort wins games. We call it "The Big E."
Sophomore Guard, Jazlyn Drake (Milwaukee, WI), is confident that the team will continue to focus on the bigger task at hand.
"We are the sum of all our parts," Drake said.
Up next for the Bobcats is a tough stretch of contests which includes four games in five nights.
"This will certainly test our mental toughness," Lorenz said.
Hosting Gogebic Community College this Saturday at 12:00pm, the Bobcats will look to extend their win-streak to four in-a-row. Last season the Bobcats defeated Gogebic Community College 95-77 on January 20.
