WAUWATOSA, WI (December 19, 2018) - Coming off of a third place finish at the inaugural 2018 inaugural Bobcat Classic, the Bryant & Stratton College women's basketball team hosted McHenry County College on Tuesday night where they propelled their way to a 69-57 victory. The win puts Bryant & Stratton at 9-5 overall on the season.
Leading 39-28 to start the third, the Bobcats put together a 9-2 run extending their lead to 17 (48-31) with just over six minutes to go in the quarter.
"The start of the third quarter will usually show how the rest of the game is going to go," Bobcats head coach Jeff Lorenz said. "We came out strong which paved the way for us the rest of the game."
Despite a strong start, the Bobcats hit a wall over the remaining four minutes as McHenry cut their deficit down to 11 with just over a minute to go.
Searching for points, freshman guard, Essence Rayford, ended the drought after tough driving lay-up through traffic which was followed by a deep three from freshman, Kiyanna Rodgers, giving the Bobcats a 55-43 advantage heading into the fourth.
"Those late scores definitely gave us back the momentum heading into the final quarter," Lorenz said.
Four minutes into the fourth, it was sophomore foward, Maddy McCoy, who took control of the game knocking down three consecutive shots stretching the lead to 16.
"Maddy played just as we expect her to play," Lorenz said. "She dominated offensively tonight which was great to see."
With just under two minutes left in the game, Bryant & Stratton had the edge at 69-55 and clinched the win.
McCoy led the way for the Bobcats with a season high performance of 23 points on 10-12 shooting from the field. Rodgers dropped 15 points, nine rebounds, four assists and three steals while sophomore forward, Brandilyn Robertson, earned her third double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Bryant & Stratton outrebounded McHenry 54-37 and shot 43.9% from the field.
Despite the poor shooting percetanges this season of 38% and 24.8% from beyond the arc, the Bobcats are averaging 77.6 points per game.
UP NEXT:
Bryant & Stratton will go on the road but stay in region play as they travel to Oakton Community College on Thursday hoping to earn their third straight win.
The Bobcats defeated Oakton last season by a score of 86-47 and will look to pull through with a similar result this time around.
Tip-off will take place at 5:00pm.
