CURLEY SIGNS TWO FOR 2019 VOLLEYBALL SEASON
As the official 2019 season approaches, Bryant & Stratton College's head volleyball coach Heather Curley continues to bring on top talent as she signs Amanda Vega Santana and Lauren Russell to her roster...
WAUWATOSA, WI (August 9, 2019) - As the official 2019 season approaches, Bryant & Stratton College's head volleyball coach Heather Curley continues to bring on top talent as she signs Amanda Vega and Lauren Russell to her roster.
Vega comes from Toa Baja, PR where she attended Bayamon Military Academy.
"Amanda is an amazing setter with quick instincts and very court smart," Curley said. "She knows how set up her hitters to be successful."
Post high school, Vega attended Ana G Mendez University for one year before making her decision to represent the Bobcats.
"Amanda has nice hands and is able to change speeds well," Curley said. "She also has a powerful serve and armswing."
Russell comes from Shelbyville, IL where she attended Shelbyville High School and competed on the varsity program for three years.
"Lauren is a strong versatile player who is solid in every aspect of the game," Curley said."
The 5'6" outside hitter completed her senior season with 42 aces (13.6 SA%), 264 points, 215 kills (32.5%), 348 service receive blocks (.2 B/S), 341 digs (4.1 D/S).
She also was named team captain and was a two-time CIC All Conference player, two-time Shelbyville Invite All Tournament Team member, 17s MLK All Tournament Team member, Energy, Pana/Shelby Invite All Tournament Team member, St. Anthony All Tournament Team member, two-time All Area Team - Herald & Review.
"Defensively she reads well and will make an effort on every ball," Curley said. "She is an excellent all around hitter who can play all six rotations and find a way to score."
As a student, Russell earned high honors all four years, national honor society, WYSE Team and a member of Matheletes.
With two great additional signings in Russell and Santana, the Bobcats will look to make a run at a regional title this season.
The first official match for the Bobcats will take place at the McHenry County Invitational on Friday, August 23 at 2:30pm.
